Adam Bernardo is currently in his 5th year of study in the Architectural Engineering program at Penn State University. He will graduate and gain EIT certification in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering. The focus of Adam’s degree program has been mechanical building systems and he looks forward to beginning his career as a mechanical designer for JBA Constulting Engineers in Las Vegas, NV after graduation.

In the two summers prior to his final year at Penn State, Adam has had valuable opportunities to further his education and professional skills through internships. In summer 2010, he worked as a project management intern for McKamish, Inc., a mechanical contracting company located in Pittsburgh, PA. Most recently, Adam spent the summer of 2011 working as a mechanical engineering intern for JBA Consulting Engineers. Through these internships, he expanded his knowledge and understanding of HVAC system design and operation and received valuable experience in BIM modeling and inter-disciplinary coordination.

Throughout his academic career, Adam has taken on leadership roles in student organizations, which has improved his management, communication, and professional skills. He is currently the President of the student branch of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) at Penn State. In the spring of 2011, Adam was an integral part in a team of three that placed 3rd in ASHRAE’s international student design competition in the system selection category.
